Parking for Read-a-thon Assemblies

Please join us tomorrow as we celebrate FPG’s top readers at the Read-a-thon Awards Assemblies. The assembly for grades K-2 will begin at noon and the assembly for grades 3-5 will begin at 1:15 p.m. this Friday in the gym.

In the past, this event has caused traffic issues, so we would like to give you alternate parking arrangements. The Town of Carrboro Public Works Department is located directly across Smith Level Road from our school. They have graciously allowed us to use their lower lot for parking on Friday.

Here are some details that you will need to know:

  1. Turn left as you enter the public works property.
  2. Park in the lower lot, left hand side, along the fence line closest to the creek.
  3. Please do not turn right, as this area is for Public Works employees.
  4. DO NOT park in any spaces near the school marked for the FPG Child Development Center. You run the risk of a $50 parking ticket.

We hope to see you at the Awards Assemblies on Friday!

Read-a-thon Awards Assemblies are Friday

Please join us as we celebrate FPG’s top readers at the Read-a-thon Awards Assemblies this Friday, March 2. Ribbons, medals, trophies and pizza parties are on the line! The assembly for grades K-2 will begin at noon and the assembly for grades 3-5 will begin at 1:15 p.m. this Friday in the gym.

Friday is also “Read Across America Day” (in honor of it being Dr. Seuss’ birthday). FPG students are invited to celebrate by coming to school that day dressed as their favorite book character.

Aside from the awards ceremonies, the event will feature the entire 1st grade class appearing as the Dr. Seuss Singers and, if the FPG student body read the goal amount of 680,000 minutes, a Principal’s Challenge appropriate for this March Madness season.

Hope to see you there!

Read-a-thon Night Coverage in New Publication

Some great Read-a-thon Night photos were published in this week’s edition of The Weekly, a weekly newspaper that Chapel Hill Magazine just launched. The story (on page 8) is posted at the reception desk at school. Copies are available for free at businesses around town. We have had luck finding them at Sutton’s and Krispy Kreme on Franklin St. downtown. Click here to see a full list of businesses carrying them.

Tally Time

  • Reading logs and pledge forms were due back to school on Friday. If you do find some this weekend (buried at the bottom of backpacks!), please make sure that they get to classroom teachers tomorrow.
  • Also, we still need volunteer help for Tally Day! Join us in the FPG Cafeteria  on Wednesday, Feb. 8 from 8:15 to 10:30 a.m. We will have coffee and breakfast goodies for all! If you can come for just an hour, we welcome your help! Please email Sharon Stevens at sharon.e.b.stevens@gmail.com if you can make it.
